Former Kraft plant to close by 2015 in Northeast Philadelphia
PHILADELPHIA - February 6, 2014 (WPVI) -- Mondelez International Inc., the maker of Oreo cookies and Ritz crackers, says it will close a Philadelphia bakery by 2015 as part of a plan to restructure its supply chain and save money.
The Deerfield, Ill.-based snack food maker says the closure will affect about 350 employees. The bakery on Roosevelt Boulevard in Northeast Philadelphia, which has gone through a variety of names including Kraft, makes a variety of cookies and crackers under the Nabisco brand.
Mondelez says it will now make most of its cookies and crackers at its existing bakeries in Fair Lawn, N.J., and Richmond, Va. It plans to invest more than $130 million in those two bakeries.
The company, which also makes Cheese Nips crackers and Chips Ahoy! cookies, employs more than 110,000 workers around the world.
