Design firm Perkins + Will has a plan for Philly: a
trash-incinerating apartment complex that would generate enough power for
itself and for 26K other homes. The complex would also include a sloping green
roof, which would be accessible to the public.
The architect and designer who came up with the plan say
that while solar panels covering an entire roof can't provide enough
electricity for even one building, this trash incinerating apartment complex
could absorb all of Philly's trash, and therefore create tons of energy.
They picked a waterfront location for the building, and if
it were built (it's just an idea right now, so no promises,) there would also
be a waterfront park open to the public.
