SMG, the facility manager based in West Conshohocken, didn't
have to look far to fill some of the top jobs at the Pennsylvania Convention
Center when it took over management of the sprawling (and too often empty)
Philadelphia center last month: It imported four SMG officials who had been
left jobless when SMG's rival, Comcast's Global Spectrum, replaced SMG as
operator of the Atlantic City Convention Center and Boardwalk Hall.
SMG's A.C. to Philly transfers include:
- Greg Tesone, formerly SMG's top manager in Atlantic City,
now assistant general manager for event productions, event services and labor
services at the Pa. Convention Center, dealing with some of the same union
locals he worked with in A.C.
Also making the switch back up the A.C.
Expressway for SMG:
- Janet Mitrocsak, senior facilities manager;
- Kim Theetge, production manager;
- Maggie Santos, event manager.
(SMG says Boardwalk Hall was noted by Billboard and Venues
Today as one of the most popular halls of its size, ranked by revenues, last
year. Makes you wonder why Atlantic City authorities switched managers. They
weren't too eager to talk about that when I called last year.)
Also hired to assist Lorenz Hassenstein, the former
Advertising Specialties Inc. and New York City convention center executive SMG
named general manager at PCC last month:
- The new Director of Finance for SMG at the PCC is John
Tracey, most recently CFO at Vince Schiavone's Akuda Labs (supercomputing) and
ListenLogic, Ft. Washington (social media data), and a veteran of VWR,
Armstrong World Industries, GE and Honeywell.
- Scott Miller (labor services director) and Jeff Westfall
(labor services manager) joined SMG at the Philadelphia center, from Freeman
Co. in New York.
- Michael Cowley, formerly of Elliott-Lewis Corp. in
Philadelphia, which oversaw labor services at PCC under the previous
city-appointed management, has also joined SMG's PCC labor services group.
Several additional staff have transferred from PCC to SMG:
- Eric Erle's new responsibilities include housekeeping and
setup"
- Tameka Henderson, onsite human resources manager;
- Jorge Palmieri and Chris Cozzen, events group.
And Mary Ann Torres has returned to the Convention Center's
event services team as senior events manager after briefly working in
Washington, D.C., according to an SMG statement today
