Pennoni bolsters its ranks, buys another firm

Pennoni Associates has acquired B.D. Abel Inc. and, with the purchase, will add a new line of business to its line up.

The engineering firm has been in acquisition mode for more than a year. It bought Green Stone Engineering in Wilmington, Del., in October 2012 and AGS of Arlington, Va., in September 2012.

B.D. Abel Inc. of Wilmington is one of the few engineering firms in the region that offers National Environmental Balancing Bureau certified testing and balancing for HVAC systems and plumbing. This will be a new service offered by Pennoni under the B.D. Abel name and will fall under the Pennoni umbrella.
B.D. Abel was established in 1975 and has 40 employees. Its president, Robert Hayden, will become associate vice president at Pennoni.

Pennoni, based in Philadelphia, was formed in 1966 and is a multi-disciplined engineering firm. Earlier this year, it promoted David DeLizza to chief operating officer and Joe Viscuso to senior vice president for strategic growth. The moves came as Charles Perry, who had served as COO since 2011 and as a former president of the firm, decided to retire. Perry is now serving as a senior consultant at the firm.
