Gov. Tom Corbett is expected to name Bill Green to lead the
School Reform Commission. Green is currently councilman at-large in the city of
Philadelphia.
He is also expected to name Farah Jimenez to the School
Reform Commission. Jimenez is president and CEO of West Philadelphia-based
People's Emergency Center.
It brings up some questions. Will Green have to quit his
city council post to take the job? Will it affect any plans he may have to run
for Mayor of Philadelphia in 2015?
The Notebook, a publication covering education, reported the
following:
Green, a Democrat, has given interviews on his ideas for
improving the beleaguered system while officially declining comment on whether
he was lobbying for the unpaid position. Sources said he is prepared to resign
from Council if he is confirmed by the Pennsylvania Senate, a process that
could take months.
