In addition to calculating
critical economic data such as the monthly unemployment rate, the Bureau of
Labor Statistics maintains and updates a career guide with detailed information
for more than 300 occupations. The most recent edition of the Occupational
Outlook Handbook was published on Jan. 8, and features information on general
job descriptions of occupations, the typical work environment, training and credentials
necessary to enter a field, as well as average earnings. The catalog is widely
used by students, job seekers and career guidance professionals.
