After nearly three years on the market, the property where
Simon Pearce operated a restaurant and glass blowing operation in West Chester,
Pa., has sold for $1.15 million.
The buyer is an affiliate of Sklar Instruments, a medical
device company that had outgrown its offices at 889 S. Matlack St. in West
Chester. The company had thought it would renovate its existing space but that
wouldn’t have solved its parking problem.
Sklar plans to convert the 27,948-square-foot building at
1332 Lenape Road into office space.
“They picked the site because it was big enough, had a lot
of parking and they were looking for cool space,” said Phil Earley of Lieberman
Earley & Co., who arranged the sale with colleague JoAnn West. “They didn’t
want 'Plain Jane.' ”
This building and its setting is far from Plain Jane. The
building was originally constructed in 1976. It sits on 4.5 acres and includes
5,087 square feet of retail space, a 150-seat restaurant, bar, private dining,
kitchen and other amenities
Simon Pearce was the seller. It had originally been listed
for $3.2 million.
Simon Pearce, based in Vermont, closed up its West Chester
restaurant in January 2011 and its glass blowing operation a month later. It
had bought and renovated the property in 2000 for $3 million.
After renovating into office use, Sklar plans to move in
sometime next year.
