East Penn Manufacturing to build new rail spur

East Penn Manufacturing in Lyon Station has received a $644,815 grant to help build a new three-track rail spur off Norfolk Southern’s east mainline.

The money was part of $25.8 million in rail freight investments the state announced Dec. 12.

The money will be spent in areas that help improve facilities and help businesses safely expand operations across Pennsylvania.

The state also allocated $10 million for aviation industry improvements. The state is providing $300,000 to Jake Arner Memorial Airport in Carbon County toward the construction of hangars.

Schuylkill County's Joe Zerbey Airport will receive $125,000 for the third phase of its hangar construction project.

The state investments will be distributed through the Capital Budget/Transportation Assistance Program. The grants leverage $20.2 million in local investments.
