Camelback plans $163M resort and indoor water park

Pocono Mountains tourism officials this morning announced plans for a new $163 million lodge and indoor water park at Camelback Mountain resort.

The 453-room, eight-story resort, which should be open by spring 2015, will be at the base of Camelback Mountain in Tannersville. It will feature four restaurants, a spa, a conference center and a 125,000-square-foot indoor water park.

Camelback described the project as the largest capital improvement in its 50-year history.

"This is an exciting time for Camelback Mountain Resort," said resort co-owner Arthur Berry III. "It's a time to celebrate and look back at 50 years of history, and it's an excellent time to announce construction of what will become the most interactive resort destination in the country."

Berry said the indoor water park will be the largest in the eastern U.S. and will feature 30,000 square feet of dry play amusement, including an arcade, game center, kids' club activity center, ropes course, mini-golf and laser tag, in addition to the water features.

The water park will have seven pools, including recreational, zero-depth kids' pools, an adventure river and wave pool and 19 slides and rides, including family rides, daring slides and a FlowRider boogie-board and surfing attraction.

The resort will have features for adults that include a ski-up bar and 25,000 square feet of meeting and conference space.
