The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration
said Thursday that it will cite two Philadelphia businesses for construction
safety violations in the Center City building collapse that killed six people
in June.
Top OSHA officials scheduled a 1:30 p.m. news conference to
"announce the delivery of construction safety citations to Griffin
Campbell, doing business as Campbell Construction, and Sean Benschop, doing
business as S&R Contracting.. . ."
Campbell's firm had been hired to demolish a four-story
building at 2136-38 Market St., owned by STB Investments, and Benschop was
hired to operate an excavator at the demolition site.
On June 5, after most of the flooring inside the structure
had been removed, a four-story brick wall on the west side of the building
collapsed onto an adjacent thrift shop owned by the Salvation Army. Six people
inside the thrift shop were killed and 14 more, including Benschop, were
injured.
Benschop, whose blood subsequently tested positive for
marijuana, has been jailed in lieu of $1.5 million bail since shortly after the
collapse.
