CAMDEN, N.J. (CBS) — Rutgers-Camden broke ground Wednesday for a new, state-of-the-art nursing school
It is being erected at the corner of Fifth and Federal in a corridor between the existing Rutgers campus and Cooper University Hospital.
Rutgers President Robert Barchi says it marks a significant partnership with the hospital .
“Research that translates from the laboratory here to the bedside there and ideas from the bedside that come back to the researchers over here.”
New Jersey Governor Chris Christie took part in the event and praised a partnership at the city and state level that helped target nearly $47 million for the project.
“When we find common ground, when we’re willing to put aside our partisan differences to find the things we know are important to the people of our state and get them done, these are the kind of things that happen,” Christie said.
The building is scheduled to be completed by 2016.
