The Delaware River Waterfront Corporation and its hired design firm will share their preliminary concepts for re-doing Penn's Landing - including the capping of a portion of I-95 and Delaware Avenue with a park - at a Tuesday night meeting.
Other than that cap, which would run from Walnut Street to Chestnut Street and from Front Street to the river's edge, ideas presented will address:
Renewed public spaces ringing the Penn’s Landing Marin
A new bridge crossing Columbus Boulevard at South Street. (The current bridge dumps pedestrians off on the west side of Columbus Avenue)
Conceptual site plans for development on Penn’s Landing at the Market Street site (between Columbus Boulevard and the Delaware River and Market Street and Chestnut Street) and around the Marina (between Walnut Street and South Street and Columbus Boulevard and the Delaware River).
Delaware River Waterfront Corporation President Thomas Corcoran will welcome attendees. Deputy Mayor for Commerce and Development and DRWC Board Member Alan Greenberger will talk about the site and the challenges it presents, and how the proposal fits in with the city's overall plan for the Central Delaware. Penn Design Dean and DRWC Board Member Marilyn Jordan Taylor will talk about the selection of Hargreaves Associates and the design process moving forward. And the design details will be presented by Mary Margaret Jones, senior principal of Hargreaves Associates.
Taylor will moderate a question and answer session.
The event will be held at Festival Pier, 601 N. Columbus Boulevard, which is just south of Spring Garden Street. Parking is available at the Festival Pier lot.
