Children’s
Hospital of Philadelphia has raised $75 million toward its $100 million
fundraising goal for its 700,000-square-foot outpatient-care center now under
construction in West Philadelphia.
The building will
be known as the Buerger Center for Advanced Pediatric Care in recognition of
the Buerger family’s $50 million gift for the $400 million project.
In addition, CHOP
has raised another $25 million for its “Building Hope” campaign, which it
officially launched Wednesday, including more than $2 million contributed by
hospital employees and millions more in gifts from families and other donors.
The 12-floor
Buerger Center for Advanced Pediatric Care will feature integrated
clinical-care facilities, large waiting rooms for families and “Wait. Play.
Learn.” areas to provide patients and their siblings with a venue for
educational toys and games. A 14,000-square-foot roof garden will be used for
recreation as well as rehabilitation sessions. The project also includes a
2.6-acre landscaped outdoor plaza described by hospital officials as a “safe
open area for play, entertainment and emotional recharging."
The Buerger
Center, which is going up across the street from main pediatric hospital
building, will be part of CHOP’s south campus — where the Ruth and Tristram
Colket Translational Research Building was completed in 2010
