Eagles show off stadium renovations

The Philadelphia Eagles provided a sneak-peak of the first-phase of its two-year, $125 million face-lift of Lincoln Financial Field Friday.
The $35 million in improvements completed in time for the team’s home opener Sunday include: the placement of images around the stadium — even in elevators — that depict great plays and players in Eagles’ history, free Wi-Fi service, an enlarged stadium store, improved lighting in concourse areas, expanded concessions areas, new paint and carpeting in luxury suites, a new private indoor club and redesigned entrance areas to allow fans to get through the gates faster.
“The building is 10 years old, even though its feels like we're just closing on the financing and finishing construction yesterday,” said Eagles President Don Smolenski, who led a tour of the renovated areas. “It was time.”
Smolenski said the upgrades came from suggestions by fans as well as teams officials.
Are the improvements designed to better position Lincoln Financial Field as a potential site for the Super Bowl? While team owner Jeff Lurie remains interested in attracting the league championship game to Philadelphia, the two-year renovation and expansion project was done primarily to improve the game-day experience for current Eagles fans.
“I’m exciting to see their reaction,” he said.
There are more changes coming to the link in the next offseason, like 1,600 new seats in three of the stadium’s corners; new and larger high-definition video boards behind both end zones; and pedestrian bridges connecting the upper-bowl areas.
